The original building, a monument of Soviet modernism designed by three prominent architects — A. Petrova, E. Mustafina, and G. Dzhakipova (1972–1981) — initially served as the Palace of Culture for the Almaty Cotton Mill (DK AKBK). This enterprise was the largest center of light industry in Kazakhstan, supplying fabrics throughout the USSR and abroad. Located on the western outskirts of the city, the DK became a vital cultural center for the area, surrounded by the first microdistricts of panel houses, and played a key role in providing social interaction and leisure for local residents.
