The original building, a monument of Soviet modernism designed by three prominent architects — A. Petrova, E. Mustafina, and G. Dzhakipova (1972–1981) — initially served as the Palace of Culture for the Almaty Cotton Mill (DK AKBK). This enterprise was the largest center of light industry in Kazakhstan, supplying fabrics throughout the USSR and abroad. Located on the western outskirts of the city, the DK became a vital cultural center for the area, surrounded by the first microdistricts of panel houses, and played a key role in providing social interaction and leisure for local residents.

The concept of the new theater complex is based on the contrast between the fluid, flowing forms of the new stage and the strict geometric rectangular mass of the existing building, creating a striking and dynamic appearance. This combination gives the theater a memorable character, seamlessly integrating it into the urban context and establishing a unique space within the surrounding landscape.

The volume of the new stage is slightly shifted in relation to the main building, improving functional connections with the surrounding area. A terraced pedestrian path, amphitheater, and café with outdoor seating replace the old parking lot. This solution not only introduces more natural light but also creates a more open and fluid space. The displacement of the volume became a key distinction of this project from other proposals. The technological connection between the buildings is planned for the underground levels, as are most of the utilitarian functions and parking.
